Preparing for ‘Future artefacts’ course at CIID

The folks at the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction design (CIID) are running a summer school and I will be joining them for a week long course on future artefacts 🙋. I am crazy excited because this will allow me to make tangible my recent explorations on speculative and critical design.

My practice has always been one of thinking through doing, yet I have in the past used my personal blog to document and reflect on my practice.

In this post I’ll document the things I am exploring in preparation for the course into 3 buckets:

1. Critical framing – books, papers, fields of design

2. Inspiration – projects that have prototyped things in an interesting way & Areas of interest, parallel to design, mostly social

3. Tech – types of technology, controversies and problems

2. Inspiration

Pinterest is kind of old school, but it does the job even if in a semi chaotic way. I’m using 4 boards as my playlists:

Visual inspiration – eye tickles and powerful messages.

Work that matters – social impact, mostly self-driven initiatives to fight violence, oppression, power … the patriarchy.

Data visualisation – again eye tickles but for telling the stories behind data13db9acce02c287e3235e0a503ef17c3
